Help: Mind Meld

Mind Meld puts your AI beside you while you work in d2: it knows which page you're on, and it can take you to the page it's talking about. You choose how much it does with a level, from the Mind Meld button in the top bar, the round signal icon Mind Meld button that takes your level's colour.

Mind Meld needs an AI that's listening. It works only while one of your agents is running: an AI chat you started with a loop line, or your background agents. With none running, the button still shows your level, but nobody follows you or moves your tab.

The levels

The button's ring and icon take the level's colour. When this tab is the one your AI may move, the button is lit: filled with that colour.

The first time you pick a level, a short box says what it does, with Activate and Not now.

Off

Grey. Meld is off in every tab and device. Your AI answers only what you send it in a chat or a thought; it doesn't see your pages and never moves a tab.

Quiet

Warm. Your AI follows you between pages, so this page means the page you're on, and acts only on what you tag or send it. Your AI can also take you to the page it's talking about, when you ask ("open the sync section", "show me that item").

What it does

  • It's the Mind Meld button at the top, right of the sync button. It's off until you turn it on, and only for the tab you turned it on in. Turning it on also turns on Dev-sync, so you see the drafts your AI just wrote; turning it off leaves Dev-sync on.
  • With it on, your AI can move this tab to a d2 page and point at the section. A note at the bottom says which of your AIs moved you and why, with Back to return to where you were.
  • If it was the AI you're chatting with, the note also has Back to your chat, which opens the chat again. Your live chats from your own projects stay in the 💬 panel on d2's Help pages too, each marked with its project.
  • With it on, your AI can also see which page and section you're looking at, so "this page" means the page on your screen.

What it doesn't do

  • It never clicks, types, approves or publishes anything for you. It only changes which page you're looking at.
  • Only your own AIs, and the agents they started, can move your tab. Nobody else's can.
  • It only goes to d2 pages you can already open, never to other websites.
  • With Mind Meld off, nothing happens, and nothing waits to happen later.

Asking first instead. On your project's AI permissions, take you to a page (Mind Meld) decides how this works. With asks, your AI shows a Go button and waits for you. With tells, it moves you and says why, with Back. With free (the default), it moves you with a short note. With person, your AIs can't move you at all.

Asking your AI to turn it on. Say "switch to Mind Meld" or "mind meld". Normally a small bar appears at the top of your page: tap Turn Mind Meld on. If you set turn Mind Meld on for you to free on your AI permissions, your AI turns it on directly and tells you, with Turn off.

Turning it off: tap the radar button again, close the tab, or ask your AI to turn it off.

Nudge

Soft blue. It also adds links to your thought cards where they help (the topic, the ticket, the page it means); it answers when you write @designer in a thought (the agent most people talk to), inside that card. Nothing else: it doesn't expand new thoughts or move your tab (that's Active).

For example, on your thoughts: save them as usual and your AI only adds links to the ones it can help with; it answers just the one you send it with @designer.

Active

Muted purple. It assists actively in every page, answers new thoughts by itself, and can navigate the lit tab to what it's showing you, with Back to return. A thought you send to the designer also opens a chat with it (or goes into the one you have open), so it picks it up at once. On a Focus, 👋 at the end of no agent following does the same at any level.

For example, on your thoughts: at Active your designer works on every thought, not just the ones you send. The one you send with @designer it answers first; each thought you save it takes further in place: links and a few notes, then either a question with its pick first (#ai-question, waiting for your tick) or, when it could just do it, the work itself (#ai-done).

Which tab your AI may move

The level is on your account: every tab and device shows the same one. The tab your AI may move is chosen per tab: the one where you last picked a level, or opened the chat panel while Meld was on. That tab's button is lit. At Active, a page you load lights itself when none of your tabs is lit, so your AI can move it right away. At Quiet and Nudge a new tab, a reopened one or a fresh sign-in starts unlit, and your AI can't move it until you pick a level there (pick the same one again). This way your AI only ever moves the one tab you chose.

ThoughtFlow

ThoughtFlow is a way of working with your thoughts: you note bugs, features and ideas as they come, and send them on to your AI agents when you're ready, one at a time or as a batch. It is off until you turn it on.

Why work this way

A long chat costs more than it looks. Every prompt you type makes your agent read the whole conversation again, so twenty small prompts are paid for twenty times over, and the agent acts on the first ones before it has heard the rest.

ThoughtFlow turns that around:

  • You think first, for free. Noting a thought costs nothing. Flesh out one idea, or several, at your own pace; nothing is sent and no agent runs until you say so.
  • A batch is read once. Send a sprint and your agent reads all of it in one go, instead of once per prompt: fewer tokens for the same work.
  • A batch is understood better. Related thoughts that arrive together show what you want overall. Sent one by one, the first has no context: the agent guesses, and you spend more prompts correcting it.
  • Nothing waits on you. A thought you sent is answered when the agent gets to it and you read the answer when you come back, in the thought itself. No session sits open burning tokens in between.

This is what a sprint and a Focus are for: they hand your agent a fuller set of thoughts, and the topics that go with them, as one piece of work.

Who answers: a background designer agent

ThoughtFlow works best with your designer agent running in the background, so whatever you send is picked up while you go on thinking, with no chat to keep open. Start your designer as a background agent in your favourite agentic setup (Claude Code, or any other), giving it your project's onboarding link: it registers itself and shows up as available on the Agents page. From then on a thought, a sprint or a Focus you send reaches it, and its answers come back in the thoughts themselves.

Turning it on and off

Pages that have a flow form show a small ThoughtFlow chip beside their title. Press it and an info box says what it changes on that page; Activate ThoughtFlow turns it on for you, on every device and project. Press the chip again to turn it off: the page goes back to its simple form and nothing is lost.

What it changes

  • Thoughts: your thoughts are grouped into Chats (thoughts you sent to an agent, with its answers), the Inbox (your pending bugs, features and ideas) and Others; cards get a checkbox, and you can Send a thought to an agent or Send (N) the Inbox to your designer. More: Thoughts › send, Thoughts › streak.
  • Search: your own thoughts and the topics come together as cards, best match first, each marked as a thought or a topic.
